(Figures above may be updated by EIA. Norway is the world's
third-largest exporter of natural gas after Russia and Qatar. But Australia is
the third-largest liquefied natural gas – LNG – exporter in the world behind
Qatar and Malaysia. According to EIA, Australia exports almost exclusively to
Asian markets, with Japan purchasing c. 80% of Australia's LNG exports in 2013,
mostly through long-term contracts. U.S. natural gas exports grew from 244 bcf in 2000 to 1,619 bcf in 2012. – D.R.)
